Where to eat in Salt Lake City
Want to know where to eat in Salt Lake City? Below is a collection of our favorite family-friendly and affordable places for you to try some of the best Salt Lake has to offer.
How do I not overstate this? Even Stevens is just THE BEST SANDWICH SHOP I’ve ever eaten at. This is one of those places that I went to everyday while we were visiting. You will find a variety of hot and cold sandwiches, gourmet soups and salads. Even Stevens isn’t impressive just because they try to purchase as many local products as possible but because they also stand for something bigger than themselves. They provide more local support for their community than I’ve ever seen any restaurant do before. From domestic violence to hospice care they cover a range of organizations to donate to. They love their community and their actions show it. Read more about how they give back here https://evenstevens.com/blog/. On top of everything previously mentioned you will find a warm, loving and fun staff serving up your sandwiches! My recommendation would be to try the Turkey Day (Turkey, Havarti, cran-peño jelly, slow roasted tomato spread, cucumbers, greens on French bread).
Ever been in that predicament where your husband wants a good burger and you’re craving a health-conscious salad (or vice-versa)? Finding an affordable restaurant with food for everyone can be a challenge but this is where Cubby’s comes in. He can order a DragonSlayer burger while you get the Lemon Chicken Parmesan salad. Get this, they each are under $10! Cubby’s is the perfect place to treat yourself to an affordable, high quality, fresh meal. I personally love the Sugar House location that offers an outside patio to people watch and enjoy great weather in the Spring and Summer.
Founders Ramon and Maria Cardenas opened the doors of the Red Iguana in 1985 and have been serving up traditional Mexican recipes ever since. Famous for a variety of different Moles (ask for a sample dish of them so you can try them all!) and classic dishes you will walk away impressed and with a full belly. The staff is pleasant, mindful and tentative. Ask, and they will take the time to explain the history of the restaurant and why their Moles are so famous. After you try the Moles for yourself though you will understand. The atmosphere is a colorful, vibrant and energetic one to dine in. What’s my favorite dish you ask? The Chile Rellenos served with fresh made tortillas and killer house salsa.
I’m sure for some from the area you’re first thought is “Why would you put a fast casual chain restaurant in this list?”. My answer is simple, because if I didn’t I would be depriving many travelers of the glory that is Costa Vida. I was taken by complete surprise by this little chain. Costa Vida is tasty, fresh and the ordering process is fast. Mexican inspired recipes with a West Coast twist, they provide something for everyone. It works a bit like Chipotle, you pick the dish you want and work your way down the line adding anything you want for a custom meal. My recommended dish – the beef bowl with all your favorite veggies, topped with mango salsa (or in my case, extra, extra mango salsa!).
Okay, so I know generally speaking a doughnut shop doesn’t technically provide a meal…unless…that meal is breakfast, right? I’m a doughnut junkie and Donut Boy has some of the most creative doughnuts I’ve encountered. With unique flavors such as the apple pie doughnut and banana cream how can you go wrong stopping here? It’s a bonus that everything is baked fresh daily by some of the friendliest people to serve you. This is a place I would (and have) returned to over and over again.
With the cozy atmosphere of Chile Amor you will feel like you’ve been invited into someone’s home for an authentic Mexican meal. Hosting a large menu packed full of flavor it will be hard to narrow your selection down to one or two items. Chile Amor gives you classic Mexican dishes with a modern touch. With unique flavors and made to order freshness you will leave satisfied. I ordered the Chimichanga with everything and all I can say is that I didn’t want it to end. The staff is friendly and the service was great. Chile Amor is a hole in the wall place that the locals love to go and that says it all.
