The Larkspur Landing, Renton, Washington
I have to admit that I am one of the pickiest people I know when it comes to choosing a hotel. Not only is price important but so is location, customer service, cleanliness and layout. The Larkspur in Renton, Washington (about 25 minutes from downtown Seattle) succeeded in impressing me with everything most important to me.

The Evaluation of the Larkspur Executive Suite
I am not ashamed to profess my love of this hotel suite. It is a spacious suite with a layout that makes sense. When you walk in you have a full kitchen to your right complete with a full size refrigerator, stove top, pots, pans and dishes. Straight ahead a generous desk area with a pull out couch and a flat screen television. Directly behind the wall that holds the couch you have a bedroom with a full closet and television. The bathroom has a double sink vanity and average sized shower. The one thing I particular loved about our room was the amount of trash cans available (these are the things you notice as a mother) and the two windows that opened about half way.
Location – I think the location of the hotel is one of my favorite things about it. Wal-Mart is a short drive away, The Landing shopping center with a variety of stores and restaurant options is about 10 minutes away and best of all there is a Starbucks about 5 minutes down the road. It is right off the major freeway that connects you to different sightseeing places around the Northwest part of Washington. From this location it will take about 25 minutes to get to downtown Seattle and about 30 minutes to the breathtaking Snoqualmie Waterfalls. So unless you’re looking to be in the middle of downtown Seattle the Larkspur offers an irresistible location.
Customer Service – From the moment I stepped in the door to check-in I was impressed with the staff and that lasted all the way through to check-out. Friendly and authentic smiles with sincere questions of how our day was and if there was anything we needed help with. At one point I needed help brainstorming things to do in the area and the woman at the front desk was nice enough to print some things off for me and deliver it to my room with a smile. To say that staff was gracious and warm would be an understatement. The fresh, hot cookies that are made every 15 minutes all day are a total bonus that delighted my tummy.
Cleanliness – I’m a self-confessed germaphobe and pretty proud of that. I usually bring Clorox wipes with me and my own hand soap for the bathroom when we travel. As soon as we walked into our suite the first thing I noticed was how clean our room smelled. I glanced over the counters of the kitchen and bathroom and to my surprise I didn’t find a single mark on the countertops. The curtains didn’t smell old and stale. The floors were vacuumed properly and the linens on the beds smelled fresh and clean. I found this common throughout all the areas of the hotel we walked through. One thing for sure is this hotel takes pride in it’s appearance and the staff does an amazing job maintaining it.
Services – There are many perks to staying at this hotel but 3 of the most beneficial are these: Shuttle Service: If your destination is within a 5 mile radius of the hotel they will give you a lift for free but don’t forget to tip your driver a couple of bucks at the end of your journey. Complimentary Grocery Shopping: I guess I would be the one who normally does the ‘complimentary’ shopping at home. It gives me such peace of mind to know that if I fall ill or simply don’t have time to stop at the store and grab something I may need that they would have it covered for me. Free Laundry Facility: This is always a favorite of mine while traveling. I can’t stand paying hotel prices and then having to pay an additional price to clean clothes if I need to. This came in handy for us when my daughter got her only jacket we brought with us filthy. I was able to use the washer and dryer at no additional cost and that made me very happy.
The breakfast – For most of us who travel often we like a full breakfast to be included in the price. To be fair the Larkspur did have cereal, oatmeal, some pastries and fresh fruit available in the morning but our family does love a hot breakfast complete with eggs and bacon for a full day of sightseeing. This is not a devastating con but it is a con for us.
